You now have three different themes to choose from: Berlin, Frankfurt, and Bielefeld. Additionally, the repositioning of the popups is now done much smarter by the app, making it impossible for them to be hidden somewhere off the viewport.īesides that, we have finalised the work on the new themes that we've promised on Twitter for quite some time now. The popups are now much crisper and look more modern and you will notice that, when you search for something in your files, you can actually scroll through your files. The first thing you might notice are some updates to the user interface, which we've overhauled completely. Apart from that, we've spent extraordinarily much time testing the functioning of the app down to the bottom to make sure to exterminate a lot of those pesky bugs that appear from time to time.

This gives a completely different and far powerful view of a computer. It has taken two full months for us to develop and test out the next release of Zettlr, but it was totally worth it. Files and directories themselves are text, so I can travel through them like any textual contents, rename them, move them etc. All in the same tool with the same principle.

pdfs do normally containing text, so I can link a pdf "as a whole" or at a specific page/place in a page and annotate it. So if a friend recommend something I can simply store a link to that email and in the future click on that link seeing that mail. This might sound strange for people who do not know the original meaning of editor however consider that: I read my mails in Emacs, I can link them. Text is information and editors are the most flexible browsing and creating textual tool. Text is not "text" with some eventual decorations. That's certainly a feature, but an editor must be far more. Modern people tend to think editors in general, "specialized editors" in particular as something to write text. are built-in and thanks to Emacs everything is deeply and simply integrated. Org-mode offer attachments to note, so you do not have issues referencing external files nor you have to manage them on a file system, links, todos, tags. Org-mode is an outliner at it's heart, this make super easier to travel through text, something markdown can't do (not because of the markup itself, folding text is not a new concept, but because many "modern people" do not think about that). Personally I use org-roam/Emacs, I can't recommend anything else for many reasons despite it's steep learning curve depending how "far" from Emacs/"computer stuff" you are, it's worth the effort so much.įirst: org-mode. But overall I like Obsidian and his videos were what I watched at first. Note his examples make extensive use of tags, which I'm not sure I agree with, since I've had very bad experiences with tag overload which naturally leads to over engineering a tag system which collapses under its own weight.

He's also the guy creating the LYT Kit which is essentially a "getting started" kit on using Obsidian as a Zettelkasten:

They also have a set of "official" plugins that you can toggle on and off to activate various features too, like using zettle ids if you like, etc.Īnd here's the guy behind Linking Your Thinking (LYT) with a series of videos introducing Obsidian for complete beginners: It uses a plugin system so the team can focus on the most important parts of Obsidian itself and allow the community to expand its capability via plugins. So you can go from it to any other system including plain text notepad if you want. Obsidian keeps all files in Markdown files on your file system without tampering with them.
